The water of free flowing Torne River is among the purest in Europe. In summer time this is a whirling world of opportunities, and during the arctic winter the frozen water forms the foundation for a fairy world of ice. The seasonal changes of the Torne River provide the yearly rhythm for people living nearby.
10 000 years ago the ice of the Ice Age carved its way through the landscape, creating the path of the Torne River. The water travels 600 km through Lapland before reaching the coast in southeast.
Torne River is 520 km long and four different languages are spoken along its shores; Swedish, Finnish, Sami and Meänkieli.

Each year, we borrow thousands of tons of ice from the river to build ICEHOTEL, but also to make ice glasses, ice plates and design to ICEBARs all over the world. Frozen water from Lapland that travels for several miles each year. You might even call it the longest river in the world.
Since the Torne River is the artery of Jukkasjärvi, ICEHOTEL dreams of one day being able to return its generosity. By making the Torne River a World Heritage Site her future life as a wild and free flowing river would be secured. She is definitely worth it.
