ABSOLUT ICEBAR JUKKASJÄRVI opens Saturday December 12 at 6 pm. Thirty two tonnes of ice and over four hundred working hours have been used to design and build the bar. The inspiration is taken from social interactions, or sometimes lack of thereof. The basic idea is to make people smile.
ABSOLUT ICEBAR JUKKASJÄRVI is planned by the arcitect Åke Larsson and is designed and built by Thoms & Nilsson.
Thoms & Nilsson is a company based in Göteborg that is run by the industrial designer Jens Thoms Ivarsson and the fourth generation stone sculptor Mats Nilsson. The duo has drawn and sculpted ice projects for ICEHOTEL since 2003. Their ambition is to enhance the present, to satisfy the senses and to create an environment conductive to human encounters. Art and functionality share space in ABSOLUT ICEBAR JUKKASJÄRVI.
Jens Thoms Ivarsson brought his drum sticks to Jukkasjärvi. On the night of the bar premiere, that also marks the premiere of the twentieth season for ICEHOTEL, Jens will perform with Empress Drive – his own rock band from Göteborg. Rock and Roll strikes the right note on Saturday and also the interior decorations are inspired by rock music. The new limited edition gift pack from ABSOLUT, a bottle wrapped in a leather- and stud gift package, is to be seen behind the bar desk. As ABSOLUT themselves expresses it – for decades rock music has been a key driver of contemporary culture.
